Caitlin Wheeler is a contemporary abstract expressionist living and working in Washington, DC. She creates large-scale abstract paintings characterized by a rich, saturated palette and playful textures. Typically composed of acrylic on canvas, or mixed media, her work is focused on the interplay of color, energy, lines and texture. Each painting reflects a sight, a sense, a thought, a moment, an encounter. Hidden among the bold strokes and layers are subtle details that invite further exploration.
Caitlin’s works are currently installed in private homes, restaurants, and office spaces in the US and Australia. She would be happy to work with you on custom commissions, or to discuss original artwork, prints, and other limited-production products including notecards, ornaments, wall-coverings or fabrics.
I grew up with a mother who is an art dealer, so fine art has always been a pervasive part of my life. Of all the paintings in my own home, I think I love Caitlin’s painting the most!
We commissioned Caitlin to do a large scale abstract for our living room. She spent a ton of time with us including coming over to look at our furniture and decorations to make sure she created a piece that fit in perfectly. The painting ties everything together and brings the color in the room to a whole new level. We love it. It’s the first thing you see when you come through our front door and we receive tons of compliments on the piece.
When I started designing my daughter’s nursery, I was looking for a focal point above her crib. Caitlin brought over several paintings for us to test out in the space, and we decided on the perfect one. Our baby girl now has the prettiest room in the house!
My first piece of original art EVER was one of Caitlin’s pieces. I love it and the texture is incredible. It really brings a lot of life to our living room.
I loved collaborating with Caitlin on custom pieces for my client’s cool downtown apartment. She was open to requests on color but I also loved having her direct the process, after all, she’s the artist! My client was thrilled with the commission and the pieces look fantastic and truly enhance our designs.
